241 homework and research quiz for Friday, Sept. 2

Homework assignments: Read Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, sections 1 through 4; work enough problems in Chapter 1 to understand the definitions involved, and in Chapter 2, problems 2.4, 2.8, 2.14, 2.66, 2.67, 2.68.

I will be using a TI-83 extensively in class, and we will use the computer regularly. Since the college computer lab has the program Minitab available for us, we will probably use it a little more often than Excel. We will spend about half of our next meeting in the computer lab.

Your first quiz is an assignment to find three articles illustrating ideas defined in our first chapter — ideas such as population vs. sample, quantitative vs. qualitative data, descriptive vs. inferential statistics. Specifications are given twice, first as a pdf and then as a Word file, to facilitate cutting and pasting for those who work with Microsoft programs.
