augmenting Google maps

Here's an article from the New York Times on how people all over the world are using the Google API to add funky you-name-it to Google maps. How convenient to have a mainstream article with the necessary clues! There are many links in this one.

The New York Times requires a free subscription, and as of a few weeks ago, the free subscription no longer includes all of the editorial page — but it still includes a whole lot. What is most useful to me is this constantly updated list of the most e-mailed articles: it points me to all kinds of articles that I'm happy to take the time to read.
