Has the experience in Logo been successful for you?
My goal in starting our work with Logo was to give students the opportunity to jump right in, to start programming right away. I would like to know whether it's working for you.
Would you please add a comment to this post? There at the end, where it says "0 [or more] comments." You don't have to sign your comment, and you don't have to log in if you check "anonymous."
- Do you like Logo?
- Were my requests too hard, too easy?
- Was there too much order, too much freedom?
Anything else you care to say, I am eager to hear. Thanks!

I like logo. It is a very simple introductory to programming and its language and processes... If I could make one comment, it seems that the printout sheets that we are using are a little confusing. When I try, for example the howlong program, it doesn't work and there isn't very much in the literature to assist me in making it work. The classes are perhaps supposed to assist us in this regard. Which they do! But in general I think that Logo is great as an intro to programming. Cheers,

Logo seems easy to people who have experience with computer languages, but for me personally it was really hard. It was like jumping on a moving train instead of getting on a stopped one. The teacher couldve taken more time to break it down word by word instead of expecting the class to go home and lean it on their own.

I enjoyed Logo; however, it was not as easy as I had hoped. Maybe if we had more time to spend on Logo, I would have had more fun than pain trying to create these so called simple programs. Over all, I think it's great fun.

Really digging Logo, and while I have to agree with previous posts concerning what is and isn't available within MSW Logo (liked it, not overly system intensive, but not the best documentation out there)... I'd have to agree that for someone, who has not ever done any form of batch file scripting, shell scripting (or other scripting languages available) this might be a bit of a leap, especially if you went onward and forward to a different language that uses a very different syntax, say, going from MSW Logo to C++ or perl scripting...
Overall, I felt it was a good means to get our respective feet wet, though it would've been a bit more helpful with a "kinder" set of man pages and examples for us to use. Thanks again for the introduction to this language, it was certainly lots of fun!

MSW Logo was a useful way to introduce the basic concepts involved in programming. I believe you struck a good balance between guidance and freedom. I found myself spending a lot of time on these problems--first drafting an algorithm, then doing the coding in a very simplistic way, and then putting together the more complex tasks. It was a good learning process for me, but students taking a full course load might not have that kind of time.
