241 computer exercise with Minitab

Here, in "Minitab portable" format, is a zip file with all of the datasets to use with the Bluman statistics textbook.

Here are guidelines for an in-lab exercise and one Minitab file for problem 12, page 44 of Bluman 6e to use in items 5 through 9 of the exercise. Item 10 of the exercise uses this Minitab macro (it's zipped) for a grouped frequency distribution. Follow the instructions in the handout for installation.

Here is a fixed Databank file for use in the homework. What's fixed about it is that the variables that are quantitative were made so by using Minitab commands Data > Change data type > Text to numeric.

Notes on homework:

For all problems, use the whole column from the databank, not just 20 or 30 observations. Choose only one variable for each problem.

Problem 1, p 88: The grouped frequency distribution will require you either to use the macro above or to build the table from a labeled histogram by hand. Insert a blank table into your word-processing document and enter the values that you found with the histogram. Omit the frequency polygon and ogive.

Problem 2, p 88: The "ungrouped frequency distribution" is the same as the tally of steps 2 and 3 of the handout. Omit the Pareto chart.

Here are all of the other data sets in various formats in zip files:
    for Excel on a Windows machine;
    for Excel on a Mac;
    in plain text;
    for a TI calculator.
