173 quiz solutions, Chapter 4

The most common weakness that I saw in the quizzes is that some students apparently did not conduct the reality check of graphing the function and comparing the results with the analysis. The graph of f(x) = 4 x - tan(x) is very clear in its local max and min and inflection points.

Correction to my own solution:

For the same function, values x = pi/2 and x = 3 pi / 2 are not in the domain and thus are not critical numbers. They do, however, divide the intervals of decrease.
